Day 12: Abundance of Happiness Meditation

In 2019 I suffered from an atypical migraine that presented itself as a stroke. A few weeks earlier I had also stopped drinking. Something I had done approximately daily since turning 21. A lot was changing and needed to change in my life. One of the things I started doing was meditating. Now my practice is not perfect, however I learned that making it a priority in my life, I actually became a happier more grounded person. The daily stress of life was much easier to handle. With intention, I would go into each day and found joy and gratitude in almost everything I did. As things weren’t in my control, I didn’t get upset (or as nearly upset) and could turn my perspective around much more quickly.

As I reentered the school setting last summer (2020) I was beginning to relive the daily stressors of the education system (and this time in the pandemic). I saw teachers pouring their hearts to students but giving too little to themselves. I was reminded of my days in the classroom and how much I struggled with my own peace of mind and too often how I would let my stress be felt by my students. Knowing now the power of mediation, I so wish I had had this in my life when I was teaching. I probably would still be in the classroom now.

Luckily, I have meditation in my life, practicing it almost daily and have begun working on my various levels of certification. Currently I hold my 100 hours and I am excited to share with anyone, especially educators my own practice.
